No/Low Shampooing Recipes
These recipes are taken from the Curly Girl book. There is a section in the book that gives alternatives to shampooing and it has worked wonders on my hair. I mention "low shampooing" because you don't have to stop using shampoo completely, just limit it to once a month etc. Also your hair should not be dirty - clarifying treatments cleanses the hair.

Baking
Soda Clarifying Treatment
- 1
tablespoon baking
soda
- 1
cup warm water (I use 2 cups
- the warm water helps the baking soda
to dissolve
Directions:
Use
this mixture if your hair is starting to
feel yucky and to help get rid of build-up.
It will leave your hair clean and 'sheeny'
without that hard, stripped feeling. Combine ingredients
in a cup or spray bottle. Double/triple
the recipe as needed for longer/thicker
hair. It may not seem like a lot, but DO
NOT use more baking soda. Your
hair WILL become hard and brittle...trust
me! Spray or pour the mixture on your hair
and work it through your hair. Allow the
mixture sit in the hair for about one minute
then rinse out well. I follow this up with
a deep conditioner then with an ACV mix.
Note
- this mixture is not harsh (there is only
one tablespoon of baking soda being used)
and the mixture is somewhat liquidity...not gritty.
With the small amount of baking soda and
the warm water, it dissolve into a grayish
like mixture. |
Scalp
Scrub
Combine
mixture, apply to damp scalp. In soft circular
motions, move around your scalp to exfoliate.
Rinse well or shampoo. (Thanks to the Curly Girl Book.) |
Lemon-Aid
Clarifying Treatment
- 2 tablespoons lemon
juice (from a store bought or from a
lemon)
- Your
usual amount of conditioner
Directions:
Mix
together, apply and work through hair. Rinse
out and style. This will leave your hair
and scalp clean! Note - this recipe won't
work if you have a lot of products in your
hair. (Thanks to the Curly Girl Book.) |
