Homemade Leave-In Treatments

These treatments are designed to be placed on your hair either after shampooing and conditioning and to be left in the hair or after shampooing, or as a pre-shampoo treatement.

Also after each title, you will notice "Leave-In" or "Rinse-Out", that way you will know how to use each recipe.

Homemade Leave-In Conditioner Treatments

MotownGirl's Leave-In Conditioner (Leave-In)

Double up the recipe as needed and substitute ingredients as you need. It's a thick mixture and it should be applied to soaking wet or damp hair best of all - you don't need to use much! It will provide your hair with the perfect mixture of sheen, softness, curl definition, moisture and fragrance! It does not leave build up on my hair.

The consistency should be somewhat thick - but it does depend on the type of conditioner you use. It works best with thick, heavy conditioners such as Suave Humectant, Eluence or Pantene Hydrating Curls. The type of oil does not matter, except Wildgrowth - that smell is overpowering and may not go well with the scent of the conditioner. PLEASE NOTE - If you purchase the conditioner that is featured above, you do not need to add Vegetable Glycerin or any oils because they are included in the conditioner (shea butter).

MotownGirl's Homemade Spritz (Leave-In)

If you find that your hair does not repsond to direct oils or hair butters, try this mixture for softness and mucho moisture!

Simply pour ingredients into spray bottle and shake well (be sure to leave some room to be able to shake). I use this mixture for my twists/braids and for freshing up my puffs and "out styles". It gives me the perfect mixture of moisture, softness and sheen! (This is a watery mixture).

Rosemary Honey Conditioner (Rinse-Out)

This conditioner blends honey for shine, the essential oil of rosemary to stimulate hair growth and olive oil seals in moisture.

Place all the ingredients in a small bowl and mix thoroughly. Pour into a clean plastic bottle with a tight fitting stopper or lid. Apply a small amount at a time to slightly dampened hair. Massage scalp and work mixture through hair until completely coated. Cover hair with a warm towel (towel can be heated in a microwave or dryer) or shower cap; leave on to nourish and condition for 30 minutes. Remove towel or shower cap; shampoo lightly and rinse with cool water. Dry as normal and enjoy shinier, softer and healthier hair the natural way. (Thank you Ericka.)

Herbal Egg Conditioner (Rinse-Out)

Add the lemon juice and honey to the egg and beat together. Pour mixture into top of double boiler and heat. Stir until it is warm and creamy. Let cool. Mix the rosemary oil in the vegetable oil and slowly add it to the egg mixture. Leave this mixture in with a plastic cap for at least 15 - 30 minutes then shampoo out.

Honey/Olive Oil Conditioner (Rinse-Out)

Directions: This mixture will help to make your hair softer and shinier. Heat the honey in the microwave and mix the ingridents in a bowl. Work a small amount at a time through hair until coated. Cover hair with a shower cap; leave on 30 minutes. Remove shower cap; shampoo well and rinse. Dry as normal.

Protein Conditioner  (Rinse-Out)

  • 1 egg white
  • 5 tablespoon plain yogurt

Directions: This will help to strengthen your hair. Beat 1 egg white until foamy. Add to 5 TBS's plain natural yogurt. Apply to hair in small sections at a time. Leave in for 15 minutes. Rinse and follow up with a moisturizing deep conditioner for wonderful results.

Caribbean Queen Conditioner (Leave-In)
This mixture was given to me from a friend. Women in her family use this mixture to protect their hair from the climate and sun.

Combine all ingredients, and whisk thoroughly. After shampooing, massage conditioner through your hair and cover with a plastic shower cap. Leave on for at least 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.
