How did your business start? Locs By Tanya was started out of necessity. I'd been wearing locs for two years and was having a difficult time finding a Loctician that used quality products and was knowledgable about issues pertaining to natural hair. I learned that finding a stylist was easy, it was finding someone to care for my hair that was hard. My primary concern is the health of my clients hair. What does your business offer customers? Locs By Tanya offers a range of natural hair care services from wash & go to petite loc development and maintenance and many things in between. One service I don't offer is cornrows. I also provide my clients with several lines of great organic products to manage their natural hair care regimes. I currently carry Jane Carter Solution, Curls and Natural Oasis. Additionally,
to ensure that the needs of clients of met, I provide service in two locations,
Lawrenceville & Snellville, GA.
What do you love most about running your company? Independence and having the ability to control the environment in which I serve my clients. I provide my early morning clients with a complimentary light continental breakfast and contemporary gospel. I
provide my afternoon and evening clients with complimentary healthy snacks,
fruit juice, tea and bottled water and the smooth sounds of Vertical
Fix radio - a new web magazine and radio station, it's awesome. Each
client is like a member of my family and they know that I'm available
to answer any questions or concerns they may have after the appointment
is over. How does your business positively contribute to the natural hair community? I educate my clients, starting with my website and continuing when they come into the salon. I ensure that they understand the importance of having the right products to acheive the look and feel they want. My clients know I have a motto "If you have more than 3 products in your bathroom cabinet, you have too many". Just because it's on the market doesn't always mean its right for you. I help my clients through the product buying process by recommending products that work for them. I often lose money because I won't have my clients purchase products, even from me when I know they can go to the grocery store and purchase a $4 bottle of olive oil instead of my $16 bottle of hair oil. Don't get me wrong, sometimes my hair oil is really needed, especially if there is hair loss or breakage...but lets be real...olive oil is the bomb! What makes your business unique? I have a genuine interest in the well-being of my clients. I take time to really listen to their concerns about their hair and I work with them to acheive the healthiest hair possible. Locs By Tanya donates free hair services every school year to 10 young girls whose family may not otherwise be able to afford regular hair care. I also offer incentives to students, giving discounted services to students that earn a 3.0 GPA for the next grading period and offering students that earn a 4.0 GPA free services for the next grading period. However, one of the services that's closest to my heart is my ministry of love to cancer patients and survivors. Locs By Tanya offers free services to any woman that is going through chemo and her services are free to six months after her last treatment. Everyone wants to be pampered and I'm priviledged that the Lord led me to offer these services to my sisters. What are your goals for your business in the future? I will continue educating the public about the beauty of natural hair and helping our sisters develop a love for their hair. I also want to help instill a love of natural hair into the young girls and ladies and help them understand that if you work with your hair, it will work for you. Locs By Tanya is committed to providing the absolute healthiest hair care possible while promoting overall health and wellness. After all, what goes in grows out. LocsByTanya.com |
