Q. Where are you from and how is the natural scene there?

A. I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois where there are plenty of women with natural hair. Currently, I reside in Upstate New York and sometimes I think that I'm the only one here (lol).

Q. Did you transition to natural hair? If so, what were your experiences?

A. I've been been natural since the beginning of 2009. My transition drove me crazy because the more my natural hair grew, the relaxed ends would break off and it was extremely frustrating.

Q. Did you have any support?

A. I received plenty of support from my friends and family. My husband comes to mind, because he is crazy about my natural hair!

Q. In your opinion, what has been some of the best things about having natural hair?

A. The best thing for me is waking up and looking in the mirror every day to see what God created me to be. The beauty that I now have is something I have always desired.




Q. How do you maintain your hair?

A. I wash my hair once a week and deep condition once a month (it really helps improve the condition of my hair). Next, I set my hair in 6 individual flat twists overnight, along with wearing a silk scarf every night. Normally I will unravel them the next day and wear it in a spiral afro for a little over a week.

My must haves includes clear hair gel, African hair oil and a silk or stain cap.

Q. What advice would you give someone who was thinking of going natural?

A. This is how God created you...embrace it!
