Q: Where are you from and how is the natural scene there?
A: I'm originally from Rochester, New York but I live in Maryland (near Washington DC and Baltimore where that natural scene is very popular). I see afros, locs, naturals, twists, etc. on people of all ages just about everywhere I go and it's quite refreshing!
Q. How has your experience been with natural hair?
A: I've been natural for three years, but I have recently just cut it all off and I'm starting over. I put a chemical in it and it damaged my hair so I'm back at the beginning of my natural hair journey with the Big Chop!
Q. Did you have any support?
A. I had a lot of support only because people around me felt that I had "good hair" whatever that means. I just wanted to free myself from the chemicals and embrace my curls.
Q: In your opinion, what has been some of the best things about having natural hair?
A: Washing my hair and go it great because it saves me so much time (no worrying about drying time or heat styling etc.) I also love the fact that on any given day I can go from curly to straight (hey, a girl has to have options). :)
Q: What is your weekly hair routine?
A: Since I've recently cut my hair the second time around, all I do is just condition and go! Very convenient!
Q: What advice would you give someone who was thinking of going natural?
A: If your uncomfortable with short hair, go gradual, get braids and just let your hair grow out until it's at a length your comfortable with...and then do the Big Chop! It's so liberating!
Q: Do you have any final thoughts?
A: Remember, Condition, Condition, Condition!
Just be you and enjoy your natural hairdo! I went form relaxers to wraps, now I'm rocking my curls and naps.
