Q: Where are you from and how is the natural scene there?

A: I am from Wyandanch, New York and the natural scene is becoming very popular in this area.

Q: Did you transition to natural hair? If so, what were your experiences?

A: Back in May 2009 was when I began my natural journey and I did the "big chop" one year later.

Q. Did you have any support?

A: My husband wasn't too thrilled at first because he was accustomed to my long relaxed hair. My children supported me and my 13 year-old daughter was inspired by new look, as she decided to do her own transition as well. The rest of my family were very supportive of my decision.

TyshjaQ: In your opinion, what has been some of the best things about having natural hair?

A: The most positive thing about my natural hair compared to my relaxed hair, is the fact that it is so much more healthier and I love the way it feels.

Q: What is your weekly hair routine?

A: If I am wearing it straight, in braids or twists I use Tresemme moisture rich shampoo and conditioner, followed by Nexxus Keraphix as a deep conditioner. If I am wearing a curly "wash and go" look, I use TGI Curl Shampoo and Hydrating Conditioner followed by their leave in conditioner. Last, but not least I use their Curl Amplifier to help define the curls and to lock in moisture.

Q: What advice would you give someone who was thinking of going natural?

A: The more you sit and think about it, you're wasting time. So I advise to take the plunge and just do the big chop! Natural hair is versatile and there are many different styles that can be worn, so don't be afraid.
