When to do the big chop?

Q: I have not had a relaxer in five months. I've worn braids a few quick weaves, however now I am now wearing natural hair styles but I did not cut out the rest of the processed hair. Should I cut it out and do the big chop, or can I let it grow out?

A: Hello.  To avoid breakage and possible damage to the new growth, I recommend you cut the relaxed hair off.  The relaxed hair will never revert to the texture of your new growth so it you want to have a head of completely healthy, natural hair you will need to eventually cut the chemical treated hair off.
