Q. Where are you from and how is the natural scene there?
A. I am originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but I currently reside in Raleigh, North Carolina. The ladies here in North Carolina are definitely transitioning to the “natural hair movement” and it’s a wonderful thing to witness.
Q. Did you transition to natural hair? If so, what were your experiences?
A. I have been natural since May 2008 and I transitioned after years of relaxers. I had previously attempted on a few different occasions prior to 2008, to go natural, but just kept “backsliding”. In May, 2008, I went for the gusto and have not looked back…..humbly and completely “Happy 2 Be Nappy”!
Q. Did you have any support?
A. Most of my support came from internally, along with watching other beautiful ladies in public that were sporting their natural hair. From a distance, I was amazed with the variety of hair textures and natural hair styles.
Q. In your opinion, what has been some of the best things about having natural hair?
A. I’ve found that some people seem to take you more seriously. Also, I have been motivated to create my own product line for naturals and for people who are transitioning to natural hair.
Q. Do you have a hair routine that you follow?
A. I routinely apply my own creation called “Moisturizing Hair Butter” to my scalp and hair for balanced moisture. Another important part of my hair routine is making sure I visit my loctician every 6-8 weeks for a deep shampoo and condition.
Q. Any final thoughts?
A. I have truly “grown” with my hair and I feel much more freer about some of the things that I do now. Not to mention, I never really realized to recently, just how powerful your hair can play on your mental strengthen and mode.
