Q. Where are you from and how is the natural scene there?
A. I’m from New York City and the natural hair scene is very popular in the Big Apple. However, I currently attend school in Michigan and I am noticing that it is becoming more visible here also.
Q. Did you transition to natural hair? If so, what were your experiences?
A. My hair has been natural for most of my life, but I eventually relaxed my hair for two and a half years. Then I ended up getting tired of straight relaxed hair, so I cut it off and have been natural now for over 2 years (June 26, 2007).
Q. Did you have any support?
A. When I first went natural, there were a few people that were hesitant towards my hair. However, I am thankful that my mother and close friends loved it. Either way, I was pleased with it, therefore what others thought of my hair did not bother me.
Q. In your opinion, what has been some of the best things about having natural hair?
A. I love the learning process I went through going from relaxed to natural hair. I wish I had the knowledge back then before I decided to go and relax my hair. This experience has taught me patience, confidence, and how to embrace my uniqueness!

Q. What advice would you give someone who was thinking of going natural?
A. Make sure you are ready and prepared mentally before going natural. I highly recommend doing some research to see if it is right for you. Always keep your hair moisturized and protect it at night and lastly have fun with your journey!
