Q. Where are you from and how is the natural scene there?

A. I’m from Chicago, Illinois and the natural scene here is growing. I love to see people rocking their own natural hair!

Q. Did you transition to natural hair? If so, what were your experiences?

A. I officially became natural on August 19, 2009 and my last relaxer was in November 2008. It was much easier to transition than I thought. After being introduced to natural hair sites online by one of my clients, my transition was a piece of cake! I did a lot of twist and curl styles and believe it or not right before the “big chop” a lot of wash and go!

I’m a hairstylist and have to maintain a certain look. I’m in love with my hair!

Q. Did you have any support?

A. I received the majority of support from watching YouTube videos.

TamikcaQ. In your opinion, what has been some of the best things about having natural hair?

A. I now feel free and more confident. Not to mention I also get more attention from the opposite sex compared to when I had relaxed hair. It is also wonderful to be more active and workout more without worrying about my hair. I must add my hair always looks good…

Q. How do you maintain your hair?

A. Since my big chop, I’ve been wearing a lot of wash and gos. After wearing my hair out for a while, I then pull my hair back in a puff. For products, I couldn’t live with out Knot today, Kinky Curly Curling Custard, and a wide tooth comb to detangle my hair.

TamikcaQ. What advice would you give someone who was thinking of going natural?

Just do it! There are so many support systems out there and natural hair is sexy.

Q. Any final thoughts?

A. I love this website! Thank you for being a mecca of information for women like myself who have been “dying” to be themselves!
