MG Spotlight – Tia


Where are you from and how is the natural scene there?
I am from Lakeland, Florida. My friends and I are slowly populating the area with as much nappiness as possible, so it is growing!

How long did you transition and how long have you been natural?
I transitioned for about 6 months. I have been Natural for a total of 6 months!

How you feel about your natural hair in the beginning?
I was so excited that I chopped all the relaxer off well before I had planned. I was so excited to explore my curls.

How much support did you receive when you decided to go natural?
Surprisingly more than I thought! My family, friends, and co-workers encouraged and supported my decision to go natural.

What has been one of the best things about have natural hair in your experience?
Learning how beautiful our hair is has made me look around and see many things are beautiful in their own way.

Has there been any differences in your life from going natural?
I do feel more free to be me. I don’t know what it is about this natural lifestyle but it has made me health conscious and I have also lost 40+ pounds!!

How do you maintain your hair?
First of all I need to keep my hands out of my Hair. I condition-wash once a week if I am wearing a afro. I do apple cider glycerin spray and shea butter at night before bed!
vinegar cleansing if I have twist or coils and I love. I apply my veggie

If you were stranded on a deserted island and had to choose 3 things for your hair, what are three things you would have to have for your hair and why?
1. Veggie Glycerin Sprays (with all my ingredients in it: jojoba oil vitamin E oil, peppermint oil and a drop of leave-in conditioner) This gives me shine!

2. Shea butter! It gives me softness and moisture.

3. Last but not least I need access to so I can see how to make some products out of those juices and berries on that dang island!

What advice would you give someone who was thinking of going natural?
Don’t Judge your hair by length. natural hair shrinks at different rates so you cant compare length and determine hair health. Just take care of your hair and love it!
