Q. Where are you from and how is the natural scene there?
A. I currently live in Charleston, South Carolina and I have been noticing naturals and locs everywhere in this area.
Q. Did you transition to natural hair? If so, what were your experiences?
A. I received my last relaxer in April 2009, so I did not transition at all before my big chop. My hair was already short, which made my transition to natural hair easier.
Q. Did you have any support?
A. My family was very supportive of my decision, even my sister went along with me to go natural and it was wonderful to have the extra support.
Q. In your opinion, what has been some of the best things about having natural hair?
A. For me, never having to worry about my hair getting wet or sleeping a certain way has been great. Last but not least, I cannot forget the money that I have been able to save from those expensive salon visits.
Q. What is your weekly hair routine?
A. I mostly wear protective hairstyles (twists, braids etc.) and co-wash and condition at least once a week. Although my hair routine seems to change every month or so (smile).
Q. What advice would you give someone who was thinking of going natural?
A: Make sure to do lots and lots of research on natural hair, that way you will be absolutely sure that going natural is something you really want to do.
Q. Any final thoughts?
A. Remember it’s a hair journey, so be sure to love yourself and your natural hair!
